Every month, we have decided to dedicate a few blog posts to one of our favorites, whether it be a place, a person, a product or a brand... We like to share with you what we like!
And this month, we would like to introduce you to the Château des Demoiselles. 🏰 To relive with her parents the joys of holidays in Provence, like when she was little, Chloé put down her suitcases at the end of June with her parents and her son Mathis 💜 in this magnificent wine estate.
We have prepared an interview with the founders of the place to help you discover their world and why we like it so much 💕✨ A little surprise also awaits you at the end!
A little introduction for readers who don’t know you?
Château des Demoiselles is a wine estate 🍇 and a guest house 🏡 located in the Var in La Motte. Formerly owned by the Grimaldi family, we bought this estate and the country house which is one of its main components in 2005. Our vineyard is labeled AOP - Côtes de Provence and represents 72 ha in an estate which is 300 ha. We produce wines in three colors - 80% rosés, 15% reds and 5% whites. 🍷
Located in the heart of Provence, what does this region represent for you?
This is part of the history and DNA of our estate. We live, produce, breathe, Provence. 🌿 Provence is our specificity, especially our Rosé de Provence wine which today enjoys international notoriety and recognition. It is also a true Provençal art of living, a unique, wild but incredibly beautiful nature. These are all things that we wish to offer to the guests of this bastide typical of Provençal architecture from the beginning of the 19th century (1830).
How would you describe Provence to someone who doesn't know it?
Provence is obviously a region located in the South of France. But it is above all an art of living, a cuisine, a conviviality, scents, aromas, sun, the Mediterranean, and of course the Vin de Provence, especially the Rosé which is today the preferred partner of summer holidays. Finally, Provence is fun, outdoors, and that is what our Château des Demoiselles offers... ☀️
During the grape harvest, do you have any rituals?
We harvest at night 🌙, from the end of August to the end of September, to avoid any oxidation and color change and to ensure optimal quality of our grapes and therefore of our wines.
If you had to describe the Château des Demoiselles in a few words?
Nature, Provence, Slow-Life, Outdoor activity, Conviviality, Happiness and Femininity. 👗
Which wine from your cellar would best match Mademoiselle Provence?
Without hesitation our vintage "Charme des Demoiselles"; if only its name which pays homage to the charm of our Miss Chloé Mortaud but of all the "Misses" of France and the world. It is a wine made by women for women (and the men who love them 😊). The rosé is a subtle blend of juices obtained by direct pressing and juices from short macerations, which gives it power and finesse. The white is vinified with the aim of obtaining an aromatic and fresh wine. For the red, the estate has opted for vinification in vats, allowing to obtain a supple and fruity wine. 🍇
You make wines but not only that, you have also moved into guest rooms? Who can come and spend time at your place?
Everyone is welcome. This is also the Provençal spirit, the doors are open (and it's not just an expression in the South 😊). We welcome individuals who want to spend quality time with family, friends to enjoy the peace and quiet of the estate, the swimming pool and the sun, or on the contrary, who want to discover the vineyard and the region with outdoor activities (electric scooter rides, mountain biking, hiking). We also welcome companies for seminars with a purely Provençal spirit.
What is your favorite place in the castle? What should you not miss?
The swimming pool and the small chapel dedicated to Saint Michael which dominates the estate for fans of Zen or spirituality, the terrace with a guinguette/bohemian/hippy chic spirit where the guests of the house spend wonderful evenings. 🥂
You have obtained the VDD label (sustainable winegrower development), what does that mean? And what does this transition towards a more responsible development model represent for you? What does that imply?
We are in the process of converting to VDD (not yet certified) but we should obtain it shortly. This label represents more than just the environmental aspect. Indeed, it is the only label that takes into account the three aspects of sustainable development: the environmental of course, the societal, and the social and economic (we remain an SME 😊). Our domain has always had the objective of ensuring the well-being of its employees and the protection of its eco-system. We have also just obtained this week the HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) certification which crowns the efforts and care brought to our domain in environmental matters. 🌿
If you still don't know what to do this summer, you know where you can go for a ride! ;) Otherwise, you can also taste their wines, thanks to the -15% discount offered on their e-shop with the code MADEMOISELLE. 🌺
Take pictures, share them with us and tell us what you think!
See you soon,
Miss Provence
